As a registered charity, Special Olympics Calgary relies entirely on the generosity and support of Calgary individuals and organizations to continue to deliver high-quality sports programs to individuals with intellectual disabilities.

Special Olympics Calgary programs are funded largely through a combination of sponsorships, fundraising events, donations and in-kind contributions from the Calgary community.

Special Olympics Calgary is committed to directing as many resources as possible to programs that directly benefit our athletes.

Some of our costs include facility and equipment rentals, coaches training, tournament fees, transportation and uniforms. Non-program costs include rent, office administration and promotional materials.

Special Olympics Calgary is pleased to accept cash donations or pledges from individuals, service groups or corporations. Donations can be directed toward particular areas within the organization or can be unassigned and used in areas where they are most needed.

Special Olympics Calgary issues tax receipts for all donations over $25.

The Leadville 100 Race

The Leadville 100 Race is a 100 mile mountain bike race held in Leadville, Colorado each year through the heart of the Rocky Mountains. Hundreds of athletes from all over North America gather here each summer to perform to the best of their abilities. There is a 12-hour time limit to complete the race and many struggle with this grueling race course; it is not for the faint of heart.

Racer Biographies – Garry McCulloch and Dr. Joel Doctor will be competing in the Leadville 100 Race in support of Special Olympics Calgary.

Garry McCulloch is an exemplary volunteer who consistently demonstrates a high level of commitment, enthusiasm and compassion for our athletes and for living an active lifestyle. As the chair of the Affiliate Management Committee, we have been truly fortunate to have Garry involved since 2001.

Dr. Joel Doctor is an athlete who is passionate about mountain/road biking and skiing. As the past president of Alberta Society of Allergy and Clinical Immunology, he orchestrated the donation of funds to Special Olympics. Being a doctor, Joel fully understands the benefits of living a healthy and active lifestyle and he leads by example.
